Controlling

Do any of you have one? a controlling friend? if so, how do you handle it? I didn't really think of the word 'controlling' until it was thrown at me by someone who was listening to me vent.

Two weeks ago my car died. I hate it. I have to ask people for rides, and working at a bar is making it hard. i have a female friend who helps me with my cars, and she is insistent that she is going to help me find a car. But every car I find, no matter what the price, she wants to keep looking.

"I looked for six months for my car," She said.

Yeah, well, that's all well in fine. You had your sons car to get around, no job. I have two jobs, a family . . . etc . .

Friday, I got what I believed was a cool deal. a 2000 4 door Saturn, fully loaded, with 2 year bumper to bumper warranty, they'll give me 300 for my car, and tow it. all for under 3500. Hello, deal, I'm thinking. This car is good. Nope. She says, 'no. Her reasoning. 'what if it breaks down' um, that's why I'm getting the bumper to bumper, plus, it comes with a rental car.

Because I physically only test drove two cars, she is pissed that I want to take this deal. I mean, really mad at me. As if I insulted her. when she asked me ten days ago what type of car I wanted, I said a saturn.

I'm tired of not having a car. I have relied on this woman for rides for nearly two weeks,. it has cost me over fifty bucks in gas and thirty in starbucks. Not to mention, that I am at her beck and call when she rides me, the other day we left my house at 10 am, and I didn't get home until 2 pm, because she wanted to get on the internet at starbucks. 2 1/2 hours at starbucks, i was miserable.

So my question is, how would you handle this? I just need to get a car. I understand her wanting to help me, but I want a car, I don't want to rely on people for rides. I work at a bar til 3 in the morning. It's ridiculous trying to find a ride home.

On a funny side, I got up. I didn't hear the baby crying, so I went to check on him. He was awake and content. Here's why.

Guess he was fussy at night and roni tried to calm him. I lifted the bay in the morning and left her sleep.

I don't get how or why the sides of the crib were up.

Your friend is a bit overboard. I'll be glad when you get a car and won't be dependent on her. What about hitting up the ex for some help?

"Thanks, Friend. I appreciate everything you've done for me but this is my decision and I want this car. If you're really my friend, you'll support this decision."

I know exactly how you feel, love. When the license was suspended, I had to ride in with a friend. And I was just as dependent on when he came and went too. I hated it. I'm too independent for that. So, thank her and let her know that she's still going to be your friend and you'll still see her around but this is really your decision and your choice. And what she did was ok for her but not for you. Then, go get the darn car.

I am a very very very happy, repeat Saturn owner. They are GREAT cars, the service stations are great, they do NOT work on commission so they do not have incentive to trick you into expensive service if it is not necessary, and they have free coffee.

Take the deal, tell her thanks for your concern, but I gotta have wheels NOW.

LOL go Roni.

She's hate me. I shopped online, found the car I wanted, test drove it, took it to my mechanic, and bought it.

One car. In one day. For the record, I also bought a warranty. Not the whole everything-and-the-stereo one, but the one that covered the drivetrain for 5 years/100,000 miles. The car has 39,000 miles, so I should make it those five years. My mechanic checked it over thoroughly, even hooked up his computer to it. Said "this car is in perfect shape. Buy this car."

What can I say, I'm a power shopper. It was what I wanted at what I wanted to pay. Why would I keep looking? My 17 year old deathtrap wasn't getting any younger, only more dangerous.

Just buy the car. You, like me, don't have the luxury of six months.

Get the car and tell her to get over it.  Thanks for all the help, but this car is what I want, and I've made my decision.  Did you consider that maybe she is enjoying spending time with you and is procrastinating in an effort to keep the situation going?

My sister LOVES her Saturn. Sounds like a fair price, if you can swing it. It's your money, spend it how you see fit.
